SCHOOL/COLLEGE PARTNERSHIPS: INQUIRY BASED SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY FOR ALL STUDENTS AND TEACHERS (Posted Spring 1999)
Edited by Merle Bruno, Hampshire College and Jacqueline Chase, Claremont McKenna College, 1998.
"This manual was written by college and school faculty and is intended to help others form science education partnership activities to encourage students, especially girls, to strengthen an interest in science. The book's strongest message is that school/college partnerships must be true partnerships in that each partner learn from the other, contributes equally, and is respected equally. The fact that colleges and universities gain much from partnerships with schools is rarely given the recognition it deserves. The manual illustrates numerous models for school/college partnerships, gives specific details of how some were run, includes references and web sites about other partnerships and research on equity in science education, and addresses program assessment. Chapters include: Girls' Day in the Lab; Science Camp; After School Science Clubs; Internet Partners; and Professional Development for Teachers.
This manual provides both ideas for partnership activities AND how partnerships can work. A grant from the Science Education Partnerships Award (NIH) funded the development of this publication.
If you would like to receive copies, please send your request to Kate Harris, Science and Technology Education Program, Hampshire College, Amherst, MA 01002 or kate@persephone.hampshire.edu."
