(This exhibit is based on an exhibit description included in the "Exploratorium Cookbook" series.)
This exhibit consists of a four foot by eight foot platform supported at its four corners by cables. These cables allow the platform to swing, twist and rotate.
The patterns that result are directly affected by the placement of the weights on the platform.
Some BUT NOT ALL of the patterns are Lissajous figures.
The Harmonograph demonstrates the basic principle of a seismograph that records eaarthquake motions.
